Official: Russia can punish harder for low quality of intl brands

PONIZOVKA, Crimea, Oct 7 (PRIME) -- Russia should punish stronger for the difference in the quality of products sold in Russia and Western Europe under the same brands, head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service Igor Artemyev said late on Tuesday.

"There is a corresponding article in the law on competition protection called Undue Competition. Besides I think that liability under the article must rise," Artemyev said.

He also said that the Russian consumer rights protection service will set its own penalties on companies selling different quality goods in Russia and abroad.

The Federal Antimonopoly Service detected a difference in the quality of the Ariel, Persil products and chocolate Lindt between the Russian and E.U. samples in December and has postponed the deadline for elimination of the differences several times since. For Lindt it was set for July 31. After that, the watchdog initiated a case against the producer.
